Does the standby switch on a valve amplifier do anything useful. Does it allow a warm up of the valves to save them from full supply voltage before being put into full service? Our local fete will be using an old 1970s Simms Watt valve amplifier for the public address and music system. The amp. has both an on/off switch and a standby switch. A recent youtube clip that I saw had a guy stating that the standby switch was not necessary but is still installed on new valve amps. just because purchasers expect to see them.
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
